The Hindu Year can be considered as a leap year. However, its date will differ depending on leapyears. Origin The origin of the new year's celebration is not entirely evident. Some people believe it originated in the past of China. Chinese mythology claims that a mythical creature sporting the head, body and legs of an ox as well as a lion emerged from a sea during New Year's Eve. It was afraid to sound, fire or even the color red. Chinese tradition marks the start of the year with red canvasses. The Roman early calendar had 10 months. Each one was a 304 days, and the year that followed started in March. In the first calendar, the ninth through twelveth months were originally referred to as the seventh and tenth months. Then, the ancient Romans under the leadership of Julius Caesar, began a solar-based calendar. This calendar is similar and like our modern-day calendar. Today we have numerous Asian cultures celebrate the new year according to the lunar calendar. The traditional calendar is utilized in countries such as China as well as Korea. The year starts after the first new Moon following the winter solstice.
